Participants of the 4th International Summit of Cities and Regions “Partnership. Resilience. Readiness” visited the Chornobyl NPP and the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone on 25 May 2026. More than 180 participants took part in the visit, including officials of the Kyiv Regional State Administration headed by Governor Mykola Kalashnyk, representatives of the Office of the President of Ukraine, as well as numerous international delegations.
Among the key participants was a Belarusian delegation led by President-elect of Belarus and Head of the United Transitional Cabinet Svitlana Tsikhanouskaya, accompanied by Francišak Viačorka, Dzianis Kuchynski, Anatol Liabedzka, Valery Matskevich and others. The visit also included a Polish delegation, notably Mayor of Gdańsk Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, representatives of Gdańsk, Płock, Malbork and other cities, as well as mayors and officials from Austria, Germany, France, Finland, Latvia, Portugal, Italy, the Czech Republic, Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Romania and other countries.
During the visit, the summit participants had the opportunity to observe the consequences of the drone strike on the New Safe Confinement arch and the impact of the occupation of the Chornobyl NPP site. They were also briefed on the current activities of the plant. The visit highlighted the themes of resilience, crisis preparedness and international solidarity, which are central to the summit.
“Visits to the Chornobyl site by delegations of such a high level are, first and foremost, a reminder of how important it is for societies and states to be prepared for serious challenges such as nuclear disasters or wars,” said Director General of Chornobyl NPP Serhii Tarakanov while welcoming the guests.
