On October 31, 2025, the International non-governmental organisation Greenpeace visited the industrial site of the Chornobyl NPP as part of its visit to the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone.
A team of six specialists performed an impact assessment of the effects caused by a russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) strike on the New Safe Confinement (NSC) Arch, which took place on 14 February 2025.
The State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU) has approved the full clearance of a batch of carbon steel from the Chornobyl NPP. The batch weighing almost 20 tonnes, was generated during the dismantling of plant equipment. This is the first batch of materials from Chornobyl NPP to be released back into the national economy, allowing Ukrainian companies to reuse or recycle them.
Before being cleared, the materials were fragmented, decontaminated, and then thoroughly checked at the Free Release Facility FRM-03 using gamma-spectrometric monitoring. The results confirmed residual contamination levels that allow the metal to be reused, as verified by 20 measurement protocols and 10 certificates for the batch.
The meeting of the Information Exchange Groups on Technical Assistance to Ukraine in the Field of Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security was held in Krakow (Poland) and was a continuation of the dialogue in the format of Ukraine - the participating states of the G7 Group Initiative “Global Partnership against the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction and Related Materials”.
The Chornobyl NPP was represented by Director of Operations Serhii Kalashnik and Deputy Head of the International Cooperation and Information Department Valentyna Odynytsia.
On the 7th of October, 2025 the new team of the IAEA experts arrived to Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant site. It is already the 50th rotation of the IAEA permanent monitoring mission at the site.
The mission includes the specialists from Pakistan and Brazil, who have got the many years of experience in the field of nuclear safety. Within three weeks they will monitor the state of the Chornobyl NPP systems and equipment, assess the compliance with safety requirements and familiarize themselves with the current situation at the enterprise.
On September 26, as per the Directive of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 1033-r and Administrative Order of the State Agency for Exclusion Zone Management No. 210-25-OS, Mr. Serhii Oleksandrovych Tarakanov was appointed as Director General of the SSE Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
Acting Head of the State Agency for Exclusion Zone Management Volodymyr Feshchenko introduced Mr. Serhii Tarakanov to the staff of the power plant and informed that a contract was signed with the new Director General, who has significant experience in power engineering.
Serhii Oleksandrovych was born in Mykolaiv region on September 20, 1980. In 2002, he graduated from the Sevastopol National Institute of Nuclear Energy and Industry with a degree in Nuclear Power Engineering. Mr. Serhii Tarakanov’s total employment history is the same as his length of employment in the power generating industry and makes 23 years.
After graduating from the university he worked as a turbine equipment operator, reactor department operator, and senior reactor department operator at the South Ukraine NPP.
